When Javier arrived at Duke, he learned about C.B. Claiborne, the university's first Black athlete and storied Blue Devils Men's Basketball Team member. Deeply moved by Claiborne's impact on both athletics and social justice, Javier partnered with him to illuminate his story. Together, they spearheaded a humanities-driven project culminating in a pop-up exhibition at Cameron Indoor Stadium, amplifying Claiborne's influence within and beyond the university community. In the photo, Javier is standing with Dr. Claiborne and members of Story+ Team, Damilare Bello, Hanrui Huang, & Sophia Hanani (not pictured). This dedication to honoring Claiborne's legacy has transformed into a documentary collaboration with Emmy-nominated filmmaker Funmi Ogunro.
